Hi,
My family and I just started our new venture with chickens the end of May. We are the proud owners of 2 Silkies, 3 Astralorpes and 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks. This website has proven invaluable to us in our new venture. There is so much to learn! We are enjoying everything about our new family members and look forward to the day when we start getting fresh eggs! I simply cannot bear to buy store bought eggs, and unfortunately my local supplier encountered a bad string of predator attacks, so we are currently eggless. I will probably be asking a lot of questions in the near future. Thank you to all the contributors here, who are helping chicken owners answer the many questions that arise.

Be sure to touch on at our Learning Center it is full of really great information. Don't be afraid to ask questions, that's how we all learn. Looking forward to hearing more about your flock.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. X2 on Allears; if you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting those fresh eggs.

It won't be a lot longer and you'll be back in eggs again. Getting that first one is such a wonderful surprise, you'll see!

Nice to have you join us!

Thank you! I am on this site a few times a week. Most currently our flock had a hawk attack. Thankfully we only had one injury, but we are all paranoid now, even the chickens. They will only come out of their house when we are there, and go right back in. The few fruit trees we have planted in their yard are not enough cover. Now im looking for ideas to give them shelter from flying predators, that dont look too tacky. My husband likes a "clean" looking yard.

Welcome! You should be able to find all that you need to know regarding chickens on this site! I do.
