Hey everyone! My name is Brittany. Brand new to this. I'm from the STL area in Missouri. We are building our very first chicken coop tomorrow and picking up 5 chickens next week that will be a couple weeks away from mature and egg layers. Very excited to start this adventure. Any tips are greatly appreciated :)

Hi Brittany and welcome to BYC. IMO you have done the best thing by getting older pullets - makes life a lot easier and the learning curve less fraught. Good luck with your coop build!

The Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced chicken keepers - loads of info on anything chicken. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Joining your state / country thread will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area, which can be helpful.

All the best

glad you have joined us and congrats on getting your own flock.

IMO get that coop built - you may want to ask the breeder if they can keep those gals a little longer if you have delays in getting the coop ready.

Hi Brittany,

Congratulations on getting your flock, what breed of chickens are you getting?

Hope you enjoy them!

We are going to be picking up reds and Leghorns next Thursday. Coupe is pretty much a made just waiting for this icky weather to pass so I can paint and trim it!

We managed to get the coop built in 5 hours yesterday. Paint and trim next. And adding a run. Very excited to get started. So much to learn still. Glad I found this site!!
