Hi i just started raising chickens i have for of my own right now im helping a friend house his baby chicks my problem is out of 22 chick 10 have died on me i am taking it hard bc i have no clue why they died there pen was clean they had plenty of feed and watee and had a heat lamp any ideas on y they might have passed ps the chicks r all different breeds i mean they all not 1 breed of chicken

How do they're butts look? Poopy or clean? Are any showing any signs of being sick?

The ones that passed it looked like they had poop on bums but no sign of sick they were eating and drinking

They could of developed pasty butt, which is simply poop that dries on their butts. It is caused by stress and prevents them from being able to poop, thus killing them :/

If you spot any more with dried poo on them, you can simply wipe it off with a wet paper towel or wet wipe, or if it's really caked on there you can dip their butts in warm water and then wipe it. Just make sure they dry properly away from a draft.

That would seem to have been the problem - pasty butt, they can die fast from that. What a shame.

PS after you clean off pasty putt, but some Vaseline on it.
