hello everyone!

I’m a new chicken owner, a project my about to be 6yr old twin daughters and I are taking on together. We already have 3 large dogs and some fish so we figured chickens would be fun too!

We have 4 chicks, about 5-6 weeks old. We got them when they were a couple days to a week old. 2 bantam red frizzle Cochins named Ella (smooth but very fluffy) and Hay Hay (the curly girl), and 2 Easter Eggers named Amelia (partridge coloring) and Nala (white and black). So far they are proving to be very entertaining and all have very different personalities. We just have our fingers crossed they all turn out to be pullets since we can’t have roosters and we are definitely attached already.

Welcome to BYC. After 7 weeks or so, you can post pics here - https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/what-breed-or-gender-is-this.15/

On this link you'll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping birds - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Thanks so much!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sounds like you have a lovely flock! I'm sure your daughters just love them. Raising chickens is so much fun, but it's even more enjoyable when you can do it as a family. :)

Feel free to ask any questions you may have. The Learning Center is packed full of helpful tips and info, and your neighbors here on BYC are happy to help in any way we can.

Welcome to the flock!!:woot
