Newbie

Welcome. Please know that I haven't yet recieved one egg yet from by almost 22 week gals and have limited experience. I have had the babies since Aug 11th and the bottom line is ... do not reward bad behaviour. Deter it, let them know what is acceptable and not acceptable. To date, they have not flown over the 4ft fence to the neighbours, and playing with them out back has been so much fun. Hope yours all get along and enjoy their time.

Bonjour and welcome from France!

Integration can be pretty brutal but sounds like they are working it out - as the others have said separate feeding stations etc all important. How long have they been together and how big is their coop?

I got the 2 Wyans on Tuesday before T-day. So today is the 5th day. They are still staying away from each other but this morning my Wyans ate some pellets and again some gizzards and hearts. They really like them. The Buff and the NH Red not so much. That's ok they will eat commercial food. I found a frozen egg this morning it had just cracked open. My Buff had laid it out of the nesting box and couldn't sit on it. They usually both lay sometime during the night or early morning. I was a little lazy getting out there this morning. But no one ate it. Again my fault. I let them out side this morning. Feeding them outside as I have the tarp over the open run and it's hard to get into coop. The feeder I have only has two openings for getting food so I don't want them to fight over that.

The run underneath the coop is about 6 feet by 4 feet. But only one group stays or is forced to stay down their. Usually the Buff and NHRed as the Wyans roost on the top rung of the coop ladder. The coop itself is about 4 feet by 3 feet. I check the combs every morning and they are warm. I think that many chickens in a small coop keep each other warm. I don't know how I've gotten italics here nor do I know how to get rid of it. Sorry. They did pretty good this morning eating but the Wyans are on alert for my other birds attack. No blood yet. I wonder what the Buff and NHRed will do when the Wyans start laying. Oh Boy.

Hello Bobbi and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Your integration honestly does not sound that bad. The Wyandottes are respecting and staying away from the older girls. You might want to add a third feeder and spread them all out as much as you can. Once your pullets reach POL, the older girls will take to them more readily. Hang in there!

Welcome to the BYC!

As long as your bossy gal isn't drawing blood, it will be ok and they will work it out. I have one gal who really bossed my 3 new pullets around. She didn't want them eating the treats or the food. But they all had plenty of room and the 3 younger gals could get away from her with no problem. Now they all get along great. Every now and again she reminds them where they are on the chicken totem pole. But they are all getting along great.

Howdy Bobbi :frow and Welcome to Backyard Chickens.

Happy to have you here with us. Enjoy your time here at BYC!

Thanks for joining our community! :yesss:
Thanks for the welcome. I got two eggs this morning. One was frozen I got out there too late. It had been laid in the coop not in the next box more exposed to the elements. My Buff and NH Red must sleep with their heads under their wings because their combs are warm even at 11 degrees. I check my cell phone for that. They aren't actively seeking out the Wyans now. But both groups definitely have their own territory. They problem is the Wyans are gonna get bigger, I hope, and then my Buff and NHRed better watch out. The Wyans just cower now or run away.

The one egg I got today is a whopper. 71 grams. I have a small kitchen scale for weighing yarn mostly. And NO I am not making chicken sweaters.

I hope so. Maybe I should have waited until spring or summer. But the way it was; if I wanted to make cookies I had to have oatmeal for breakfast. Only getting 2 eggs a day. Yesterday, only one but today 2. Unfortunately, one was frozen. Again my fault. Gonna wear my muck boots to bed so I can hop right up and go out there before sunrise. LOL.

Thank you. My two Wyans are not debeaked and they bite. Not hard. As soon as the realize my finger is not food they let go. They have improved though. Because when I first got them on Tuesday. They would sqwak so bad you'd think I was killing them when I picked them up. Sounded like I was strangling them. Now I can pick them up and just talk very quietly to them and stroke them and the are fine. I think they know I am feeding them so they are getting to know me. ??????
