Hey, we are new to the site and chickens, for the most part. We currently have 8 (we lost our Maran this morning): cinnamon queens, an Easter Egger, and a Brahma. We’ve had our girls for 4 months now and love them and what they teach our children. We are at a loss today which is a big reason why I joined back yard chicks; wracking my brain and google As to what could have happened.

Two common diseases that can cause deaths early are Coccidiosis and Mareks Disease. Mareks can be prevented by vaccination on day one so buying vaccinated birds is important. Coccidiosis is another and prevented by feeding medicated feed the first 8 weeks of life. This lessens the risk of these two problems. At this point hard to tell reason for death without a necropsy. Would recommend one if have another death.
