Welcome to Backyard Chickens, Clare! We are glad you joined the flock! :welcomeBYC is a helpful site providing all of the information you need to know about poultry. There is always space for members on the BYC roost! :highfive:
so I've got a question, a broody that's just hatched eggs has squashed some chicks and has started pecking them also. So I moved the chicks into a separate brooder its 40+ degrees C her with a minimum of 26c here tonight, do I need a brooder lamp on?
Do you mean 40 Celsius? If so, that might be too overheated for the chicks. I definitely wouldn't recommend a heat lamp. If you notice the chicks huddling together when it drops to 26 C I would put a heat lamp up high where it will make a little difference.

Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!
