Hello! We are new chicken/guinea/rabbit/and soon to get duck owners!! We are a family of 6 with children ages, 2, 4, 7, and 10! We live in rural Missouri and just bought a house where the owners left us a guinea and rabbit! We have always lived in the midwest and love it! We have all 4 seasons with great variation of temperatures!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
YES! We got 7 Red Productions and 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes on March 5, then a week later, got 4 Buff Orpingtons and a Cochine, then a week later got 3 guineas and an Ameracauna and Olive Egger. I think that's called Egg Math!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
18 chickens and 4 guineas
(3) What breeds do you have?
Red Production, Cochine, Buff Orpingtons, Ameracauna, Olive Egger, Guineas
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They all have different personalities! Our Ameracauna and Olive Egger lets our children hold them for an extended period of time.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Our kids love to play with our mini-Rex rabbit, dogs, horses and play in the creek!
(6) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
