Newbie!

I'm new here and have recently become obsessed with homesteading (the idea of homesteading, anyway). Been gardening for years and it is time to step up, do more to become less dependent on the system... Been dreaming about raising chickens lately and I'm ready to dig in, learn more and get started. The Grow Network led me here so I trust where I am. Looking for advice, resources (people), best breeds for my location and where to start.
I live in central Maryland on a half acre. Anyone out there close by?
