Newbie from Maine.want to build a Medium walkin coop that can handle the winters. 5-6 chickens for the wife and I.

Welcome. My chickens are part of my family, so I like to give them a lot of secure space, both in the coop and their runs. It is great you want to build - prefab coops are just terrible. Another alternative that a lot of us do - especially if we cannot build - is to convert sheds. Walk-in is the best. For 5-6 chickens, I would make a coop that is at least 8x8. Think about it this way...how much space do you need to have in your coop if there is inclement weather and they need to stay in there all day?
