Thanks for the idea. I had thought of mulch but not sure if that is good for them. The original kind not the coloured stuff. That is more like rubber if I remember correctly. I have to get what I can carry as I am in my 70's now. I manage the 50lb bag of feed well enough though. Another question is 'do chickens need toys'? Sorry to sound so ignorant but this is my foray into chickens.Thanks for joining! You could put a substrate down just to make it easier to keep clean than dirt. Dirt is fine though, if it doesn't get too muddy. A lot of people like using sand, but I'd use the coarse sand like construction or arena sand and not play sand or beach sand. Pine bark or wood chips (not cedar) would work, too.
