Hi all! I am new to the forum but not new to chickens. I have six chickens, Crystal is the alpha female, she is a 5yr old white Leghorn. Opal comes next, Opal is a 1yr old Leghorn. Moonbeam and Shiva are 6 month old Plymouth Rocks who are very skittish. And last but not least Elizabeth and Jade are 17wk old Wyndottes or as my dad likes to call them 'Haiwyndottes'!
Crystal has had many flocks and has survived through all of them! She is my miracle and my baby! I live in Australia and only really have a few predators that could harm my chickens! Hawks, Snakes and Goannas! My family has a large German Shepherd who simply adores the chickens and will follow them around. He wouldn't let anything hurt them. Crystal knows what to do when a Hawk is around, she will usher the others under cover and sit there until all is clear. The Goannas haven't actually seen the chickens but we have had three in our property but they have been all chased out! I love my chickens so much! I hope that all of you will be able to help me on my learning journey!
