Newbie

Thank you so much everyone! The past few days have been filled with getting to know our new girls (I am fondly calling them my chicken children) At first, they were traumatized, but we have all spent a lot of time with them since this past Friday evening when I brought them home. Yesterday morning, I brought them a little leftover cooked, plain steel-cut oatmeal. They all came over and enjoyed they treat while I held the bowl, and kept moving it closer and closer to me. This morning, the two RIRs were eating their oatmeal treat out of my hand. The Barred Rocks were interested, but still a little too timid to eat from my hand. This evening I went out to talk to them, and had a small hand-full of dried meal worms. The two RIRs came rushing over, then looked at me like I was nuts. I could have sworn they were all extremely irritated with me!

I was told they were all about a year old. I'm not sure that is the case because I feel they came from a less than reputable place. I'm brand new to the whole chicken business, but am doing my best to learn as much as I can. I know it's a bad time of year, but am hoping one of my girlies lays something soon. I've found myself sucked in here reading everything I can!

Thank you again everyone!!!
