just wanted to introduce myself, i am new to the chicken thing and am looking forward to sharing information with all old and new, We live in westbrook, maine and have always grown veggies and bought from local farms, my wife and i have a dream of owning our own personal self sustaining farm and this is our trial run with animals.:) i have always been a pet owner, currently 2 dogs a bearded dragon and one beautiful 4.5'long ball python. we are so excited to have fresh eggs, hopefull around september, chicks come in may. currently i am thinking about brown brahmas, from what i have read they are very easy to take care of, good temperment and adjust well to the cold. Any thoughts or ideas are welcome. hello again and hope to hear from you all soon

A great place to start is in our learning center here on BYC. Lots of good reads on all aspects of poultry keeping from building the coop, different breeds to keep, raising and keeping your flock healthy...

Great to have you aboard and enjoy your new adventures!
