Hi everyone!
I'm Amber a newbie to Chickens. I have four kiddo's ranging in age from 5-12. We live in Missouri. I am from Kansas City and have lived in the country with my hubby for the past 12 almost 13 years. I am finally trying to embrace living in the country. ;)
I just ordered 16 chicks today after researching for a while on chickens! We are getting 5 Easter Eggers, 1 EE roo, 5 Golden Laced Wyandotte, and 5 Silver Laced Wyandottes (please excuse my newbie errors in their names?). My hubby is going to work on getting the supplies together to build the coop tomorrow.
The kids and I are very excited!! I am sure I will be reading non-stop about ho to care for our chicks in the next few weeks before they get here. And I am positive I will love reading all of the post from this forum to learn how to take care of our new Loves!
Tips on everything are very welcome!! :)

Glad you joined us! Starting with 16? Two words...Chicken math! Tell him to build bigger then you need because at some point in time you will need it. To explain chicken math:

Thank you for the welcome!!
I only ordered that many because 15 was the minimum. We have plenty of land and I researched how big of a coop I needed. we plan to build it big in case we need it for that many. That said. I would like to start out a bit smaller. My step-father-in-law has a coop but no chickens (my mom said no....) so I am hoping by me having some he will take some of them. If not there are plenty of other friends around that would take some on.
Thank you so much for your advice! I love your images!! :)

Haha, I will! I think she just had the same hang ups I did as a city girl. She is a ovo-lacto vegetarian so eggs are a good part of her diet. She has been living down here in the "sticks" for 7 years and has come a long long way from her city self also.
I'm not knocking awesome city people who are cool enough to raise chicken also! ;)

It all depends on how you raise them. Handle them while young and make sure they know you are in charge and they will all do fine. Keep them together while young also.
