I am a new member to this site although I have been a visitor many times. I have barnyard chickens ducks, 2 normal geese and one that is blind. Most of my chickens are bantam and americaunas and I have a trio of porcelain du'ccles. I also have a trio of call ducks that my husband bought that I also fell in love with. I have a repti pro 6000 incubator and also a little giant incubator.I love hatching time but haven't had much luck lately. My du'ccles are laying now and I have hatched 6 babies but they all had trouble hatching and 5 died within a few days. I introduced a new hen and have eggs in the incubator so fingers crossed. And praying for the hatch.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with the new hatch, hope all goes well. :fl Sorry about the problems you have had, it is so disappointing to lose the chicks you've waited so long for.

Welcome to BYC!

So sorry about those babies. It is never easy to lose chickens, especially when they are babies. But I do wish you all the luck with the hatch! If you have any questions about anything, that is what we are here for. Welcome to our flock!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

Early chick loss can be related to a lot of different issues. In particular inadequate or unbalanced diets can affect egg quality, and infections in the reproductive tracts of hens can lead to early chick deaths. Good luck with your future hatches.

Thank you so much. I have had other chicks hatch normally and I thought this was just a problem with my du'ccles. Two days ago I had a call duck egg, just one egg that I had been praying over and anxiously waiting for to hatch. It pipped normally and started to unzip but just in a few places not all the way around. After two days and with no progress and no sounds within, I peeled away the shell to find the baby dead. So heartbreaking. Can't help but wonder what I am doing wrong.any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
