My family and I have a generous size yard and we are avid gardeners. I have always wanted to raise chickens. In our city we are allowed 2 hens. This winter I plan to build a coop and in the Spring I hope to have chickens! I have so many question and I am sure that more will arise each day. *Excited to join such an informative forum

Glad you joined the flock! I'd suggest you check out the Learning Center for some start-up tips and the Breeds section to help you choose a breed (or two). Enjoy the site!

I would definitely check out the Learning Center, which Sumi provided a link to. That contains plenty of information for beginner chicken raisers.

Also, feel free to ask any specific questions that you have! We're all here to help.

So glad you joined us.

You ought to try to get some support from other chicken lovers to get the ordinances increased to at least 3-4 chickens - argue they will be happier and quieter with a flock and not duo. But 2 is much better than none.
