Hi, I'm Calima. I've always wanted to raise my very own laying hens but I live in the city of Savannah, Georgia. But this Friday my dream and curiosity will come true. I pick up my 4 baby chicks on Friday January 16, 2015! Yaaaah! My husband and I are in the process of building our new additions to our family a brooder. I will post a picture once it's completed!!! We will house them in the garage until they reach coop age! Any advice is wanted and welcomed!! Hopefully I'll have better luck at raising my baby chicks than I did with being a vegetable gardener, lol!!!

Welcome to BYC, Calima. Glad you decided to join our flock. Congratulations! It's always so exciting getting those first chicks. If you haven't done so already, I would recommend reading through our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of good information there, and it can help prevent you from making mistakes with your first flock. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chicks are you getting?

We're glad you joined us!

Good luck with the chicks you're getting! Rhode Island Reds and Buff Orpingtons tend to be docile, productive egg layers, and I'm sure you'll enjoy them.
