I am just beginning this adventure. Any suggestions on breeds good with kids, can tolerate heat and cold, and that are not too noisy since I live in town. Thanks so much

I'm glad you joined us.

I would suggest the Wyandotte. Mine have had excellent temperaments, been very cold hardy (and have done fine in heat), and they have also been very good egg layers. Easter Eggers, Australorps, and Orpingtons are also good choices.

Like Wyandottes7, I highly recommend Wyandottes. Some other breeds that would probably work well for you, too, include Sex-links, Easter Eggers, Australorps, and Orpingtons.
