Hi my name is cassie!!! I'm a first time chicken owner. I recently got baby chicks from a friend as well as two full grown hens. I've already had to out the two hens down. First one got attacked by my sisters dog and the second one got fly struck and died yesterday. Not off to the greatest start. I ended up getting a full grown beautiful rooster from a friend as well. He has yet to attack me so I'm grateful of that! And the 11 chicks that I have are still going strong!!! I always come here for questions that I have and what not. So informative! My husband is already calling me the chicken lady!!!

If the dog didn't kill the hen outright, she may have survived, with some TLC and medications. Chickens seem to possess great recuperative powers and recover from some grievous wounds. I hope the dog won't get a second chance. Dogs + chickens = dead chickens. You never hear about a chicken killing a dog,
 
Wasn't sure what to do as this is my first time. She seemed like she was doing ok, I watched her all week, then one day I went into the coop and she could barely breathe.
