Newbies in Chesapeake, VA

Hi all,

Just joined BYC and thought I'd say Hi!

My husband and I purchased our 4 acre farm last summer and are starting to get everything sorted out. We are bringing home a Karakachan Livestock Guardian puppy next month to (hopefully) keep the raccoons out of my barn, keep the coyotes and opossums out of the horse pastures and protect me (and our soon-to-be-chickens) from predators and the Boogey Man while in the barn at night.

He'll be joining our 3 other dogs, 2 cats, Cocketiel and 3 horses...and our new chickey's. Speaking of chickens......We are looking at Buff Orpingtons and Moyers as free range, non-broody, high production egg layers. Anything we should know about either that anyone can share would be much appreciated. Or any other suggestions on breeds to look at....Especially since we're ordering them next week sometime!
