Hi there community,

First off, we want to thank all of you for the wealth of information we've gleamed off of this site from your input. We decided after a neighbor's rooster made its home in our backyard for a week and the kids fell in love with it to get some chickies of our own. So off we went late one Sunday night to pick up our first 5 hatchlings (4 buff orphingtons and one half buff/half easter egger). The next day on our mission to buy feed, we ended up bringing home another two black stars, a brown wyandotte, and a plymouth rock.

After reading some of the forums on BYC, we suspect we ended up with 7 pullets and 2 cockerels.

Our chickens are almost a month old now, so we've begun construction of the coop. The run is 8x12 covered with a raised gravel/sand foundation.

We're hoping to eventually stop buying store chicken and rely on our own flock for eggs and meat in an effort to withdraw support for the unsustainable corporate model, so thanks for providing the blueprints!
