hi everyone, my wife and I are new to this. want to raise chickens for eggs and meat and thought this might be a good place to learn some tips to get us started in the right direction. we have a nice size dog kennel with a roof on it that we intend to use as a coop.
 
Welcome! The learning center tab is a great place to start. Numerous ideas on coops, how-to instructions for feeders, waterers etc.
If there is something you can't find post a question. There are oodles of friendly, helpful people here. Enjoy & have fun!

Hi! There is definitely a vast base of knowledge here, and answers come pretty quick. I have a lot of confidence in starting my flock thanks to this site and forum. Welcome!
 
Welcome to BYC! If the dog kennel is just chain link I recommend fortifying it with 1/2 hardware cloth (very strong mesh wire) on the sides and the top. Predators can reach thru the chain link and it's not pretty. Good luck to you.
 
Hello and welcome I noticed the cat picture and laughed to myself because last winter I had 6 silkie chicks their rooster and 3 hens in a building that's all insulated and that's where my 2 cats slept of course they were seperated but I had a heat lamp for the birds and the cats found a weak spot and climbed in the silkies and their chicks pen and slept with them at night the first time I walked jn and seen them in there I almost took a heart attack by luckily my cats are used to so many animals they didn't care and also my sister also has chickens and her little roosters sleep with her cats to keep warm funny how animals work :) anywho good luck in the future I think you will come to agree with everyone raising chickens is so much more fun then I ever thought when I first got them
