Newborn chicks, any idea of gender?

I have had two chicks hatch so far. The first born came from a blue egg marked CCL (the person I bought it from said they are autosexed, so no dot on the head means it is a female. Is that true?)

The second born came from a brown egg that wasn't marked, though it looks similar to the first born. Since it has a white mark on its head, I'm wondering if that means it is male?

That's not how cream legbar work. A clear chipmunk pattern is a female, a smudgy lighter brown or gray is male. If you don't know the breed of the second, there's no way to tell gender unless you are a professional vent sexer. Cream legbar only come from blue eggs. And it might be shadows in the pic, but the first doesn't look like a cream legbar.

Oh bummer! This is my first time with chickens so I am pretty ignorant. That is good to know. I will see if I can get a picture that is a little brighter/clearer of the first born.

Not enough is known of the parentage to sex at this point as those meanings only apply to markings when specific genetic crosses are made
CCLcrested cream legbars come from blue eggs, the females are like chipmunk brown back, and the males are gray with yellow dot on head thats what they refer to auto sexing.... Seller might eve mistaken from a black ameraucana blue egg or something else.

Black sex link its another auto sexing breed females are all black while males are black with yellow spot on head

Yes, I'm aware of that....but these chicks are not of known confirmed breeding so the above is not spplicable

Agree, first chick does not look like legbar at all.

Oh I see, then that chickie will be an olive egger maybe?? If the other chick came from brown egg maybe they used a copper marran roo or a barred rock as the father?
