. In the past when we have put straw down we had trouble with red mites although that could have been because it was summer. We have straw down at the mo but the ducks have there little pond in there and they love to splash and soak the ground bless their little socks oh and splash our girls.... We have hay as we have a horse so getting our hands on it is not a problem its just down to cost between hay and straw. Julie x
