thanks guys for all the warm welcomes and the advice I've been studying over the last few days and I built my first brooder last night. I am going tomorrow to pick up some New Hampshire Reds, and I found some black Asratlorps I sure these are the birds I am looking at along with some Rhode Island Reds

Hi from Connecticut. I am a newcomer in the BYC I am 12 and have silkie chickens. I have 20 chickens 5 roosters and 15 hens. I love animals so my mom acquired me to join this website. So I did.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

Orps are really nice birds, but maybe not the best for a laying flock - their eggs are not very large, and they tend to go broody easily. You might like the Henderson chicken chart, it has lots of good info on different breeds.
