from Kansas! We just started with chickens a year ago with a mixed flock of chicks. Over the past year, we have figured out what breeds we prefer and have gathered so much information from BYC and the BYCers in our State that have exposed us to other breeds. You are certainly in the right place to assist with your chicken journey!
thanks guys for all the warm welcomes and the advice I've been studying over the last few days and I built my first brooder last night. I am going tomorrow to pick up some New Hampshire Reds, and I found some black Asratlorps I sure these are the birds I am looking at along with some Rhode Island Reds
Hi from Connecticut. I am a newcomer in the BYC I am 12 and have silkie chickens. I have 20 chickens 5 roosters and 15 hens. I love animals so my mom acquired me to join this website. So I did.
thank you!!
Orps are really nice birds, but maybe not the best for a laying flock - their eggs are not very large, and they tend to go broody easily. You might like the Henderson chicken chart, it has lots of good info on different breeds.
