Newest Serama's

They sell coated hardware cloth at TSC and our local feed store. Maybe you could use that to get it cleaned easier. I just got a whole bunch of birds in shipped, and they were a little ragged feathers too. I really think the shipping takes a lot out of them. Also, I have been to Jerry's place before, and he has SO many birds. The ones I got from him were also a bit skittish. There is no way a person could handle all those birds

They look great!

I know you can buy the rabbit cages with coated wire on the bottom here so I'll have to look for the coated wire when I have the next one made. I don't know if I can just replace the floor wire in the cage I have now but it's definitely an idea I'll look into when I can look it over in the daylight. If it looks like too much trouble, I think I can clean it up really good and paint the coating onto the existing floor wire.

The coated wire is wonderful. The poop doesn't stick to it as much and it's nice on the feet and feathers.

I'm very impressed, I'd love to go see Jerry's Serama's in person. I have a friend in Mississippi and I need to find out how far he is from where she lives and I might make a trip to visit my friend and swing by Jerry's on the way home

With a cage of course

I don't mind them being a little skittish, these handle very nicely once I catch them. They'll eventually get tired of avoiding me, lol, and they'll be waiting at the door of the pen for the crazy lady to pick them up.

Diamond is a partridge, with very pretty pencilling. Read the book teaser on www.chickencolours.com , it explains the genetics a bit. Dovey looks like she's trying to be a black tailed white, but I'll bet her tail feathers aren't black! I have a similar looking pullet, from bev219. If there's such a color as buff splash, that's what I'd call your cockerel.

Thanks, I was thinking partridge for Diamond but there are so many colors and variations I just wasn't sure. Dovey is young, 5 months. I guess she may get more black in her tail feathers. I've read the Serama's go through several feather color phases before mature.
I thought of splash for the rooster, I know more about horse colors than poultry so that's what it reminded me of and I know splash may mean something different to different animals. Cool. I definitely need to get a book and start studying up, there is so much more that I didn't know about poultry in general.

I have a dear friend who showed poultry in FFA some 30 yrs ago so we can have some fun discussions. She's in Mississippi and has a few cochins and americauna's. I need to get her to join the group.

I think it's also called silver pencilled.

A silver pencilled bird is like the silver pencilled Rock - black pencilling on a silver feather.

There are often pictures of them in the eggs for sale forum.

Lacing can be silver, or blue or black - that happens on the outer edge of the feather.

As in the blue laced red wyandotte. Or the Gold Laced Wyandotte with the lovely gold feather with black lace.

Quail can have what looks like a lace edge in lighter birds.

Hmm hang on lemme see if I have a pencilling pic up close...

That's Caladan, she is a partridge rock, see the pencilling on her breast?

Alright, forget what I said about the partridge -- I cannot find my sources that led to my statement anyway. But if you do find out what color Diamond is, let me know, because I have one like it, too!
