Hi, Newbie Q!

One day 26 one of the eggs started its external pip, its now day 28 and its got its bill out of the egg, so a little bit longer for it come out. But i have a 2nd egg now externally pipped.

So my q is: when should i remove the first duckling once its out of the egg and dry(ish).give than that there eggs now that are externally pipped? Also i'm worried about the duckling harming itself on the turning pole

thanks in advance

What is your humidity at? You are going to get different schools of thought on this one. You need to decide what's right for you. Personally I remove my chicks as they hatch. I keep my humidity at 75% and quickly reach in and close the Bator back up. My humidity returns almost immediately. I don't want my chicks bumping into my other eggs and rolling them around. There are others though who do not remove chicks until all are finished. The biggest reason for not opening the Bator is to keep your humidity up so membranes don't dry out. But if your humidity is high enough this should not be an issue.

You are gonna love my answer, i have a janoel 12, which you can't set the the humidity. I do not have a seperate humidity sensor (something which will be done for next time). I'm putting about 50ml of warm water 2 to 3 times a day

also the hole its made itself is two duckling beaks wide and its now having a little trouble going further. it started ziping (making a second hole) 11pm last night uk time (4.20 pm now)..

If he is still making progress I would leave him for the time being. I usually do not assist unless it has been greater than 24 hours. Most of my hatches take anywhere from 6-18 hours from pip to hatch. I have assisted on chicks that have gotten into trouble. There are a lot of videos on YouTube. I would watch a few just in case you need to do something. Tweezers are the best tool, make small pinches, use a moist Qtip to help see blood vessels and keep membrane moist. And most importantly if there is any bleeding at all STOP hold the Qtip to the stop to try to stop the bleeding. The process should go slowly. Do a little and return the egg to the Bator. Don't rush it.

BUT I don't think you are there yet. Your little guy seems to still be working. Give him time.

He came out yesterday at 9pm uk. He realised that he zip the shell to get out. He was Playing ping pong with the other eggs, so we got him out after an hour!

Update. the other one which had externally pipped, continued today and then i realised the membrane was really dry. I've done an assisted hatch, i've only removed half of the egg!. But hes sleeping atm and is under a heat lamp. i hope i've done the right thing.

The other thing is theres one more egg, which has internally pipped( see the bill and can hear him chirp) but no external pipp. What should I do about that egg?

Btw thank you for the help :) and encouragement!

The one under the heat lamp is it still in the membrane under the heat lamp or completely hatched under the heat lamp?

The one that had internally pipped and chirping, just leave. Give him time to try to externally pip on his own.
