I got three Azure blues in April, they have been laying almost 3 months. I then inherited three younger ones who are already bigger than the azures but not laying yet and get picked on by the established hens. One hen gets broody but a stay or two in chicken jail cures her! I recently opened up the fence between the two groups. Any advice for making them get along? Also can anyone ID this breed?

Hello Jum, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

You need much better pictures for breed identification. How much space do you have in the run for these birds? How much space is in the coop? You need a lot of space, clutter and multiple feed and water stations in the run for a smooth integration.

Hiya, Jim, and welcome to BYC! :frow

You can't make chickens get along, but you can make it so the littler ones don't get picked on. Be sure they're in a large enough pen/coop for all of them. They need 4 sq feet per bird in a coop, and 15 sq feet per bird in a run.

I'd put out two different feeders and waterers so when they're shunned from one, they can go to the other. Also it helps to have places they can hide or dart under that the larger ones can't get to them. I like to put their feed/water near there so they can sneak out and eat. Suggestions for hiding places are pallets leaning against the wall/fence, an overturned chair, a wooden box on its side, etc.

We're glad you're here!
