I have 8 chickens, got 3 Buff Orpingtons yesterday, have 2 Ameraucanas, a Black Maran and would have to look up the other 2. I love my chickens, am vegan so they are my babies as wells as my dogs and 4 goats. Am retired/disabled federal investigator but my passion has always been animals. LIve on 5 very sloping acres in western NC but hope to move to Maine in a few years. I have had chickens for 3 years, started with 4 but when I moved here, the coop was in a half acre fenced enclosure with my tiny dogs but they killed 2 and it was devastating......upsetting because my doggies turned out killers, they are all under 10 lbs, and the loss of my darling Edina and Dorothy.

I am trying to build a coop by myself, and it has to be biggish and very protected. I am also going to build a big run as my girls roam the mountains during daytime and used to come when called but I think they are going through a teenage phase and ignoring me so have to go and find them, not easy on this slopy terrain and carry them home. I also have 9 ducks, 4 goats, 1 Karakachan to protect everybody, 27 guinea fowl, a hard learning experience but now they are bigger and soon will be out in the enclosure eating all those nasty bugs . I have 12 Bolognese dogs, and 2 Biewers, plus my father/son Maltese boys. I know A LOT about dogs and have learned a great deal from my chickens and reading everything about them. Thank you for letting me join.

At least those slopes give you exercise, while (chicken hunting),
