Hello, so happy to have found this site and all the knowledge on here!! We have wanted chickens for some time now and since our county (Salt Lake County, Utah) is in the process of relaxing the codes for back yard chickens we will be first in line for a permit! We may or may not (permit not issued yet) have seven chicks that are in a newly built DOG PROOF brooder box. This is our second set of chicks as we found out the hard way that our dog does in fact enjoy the taste of chicken! He found a way to unlock a door in our basement and the rest is history. The girls are now in a very secure wooden box that is fully enclosed (hardware cloth? on the top) behind not one but two doors that both have chain locks on them.
I was very surprised to find out that our neighbors were excited about the fact that we would have chickens, even though the new county codes will not require their approval. I will be building their coop and run soon and I am sure I will have many questions, thanks in advance!!
We currently (may or may not) have:
2 Americauna (we were told they are but I am sure they are Easter Eggers)
1 Black Astralorp
1 Barred Rock
1 Rhode Island Red
1 Gold Sex Link
1 Mystery bird that should be a Black Sex Link
