Newly hatch food in feeder or floor?

for when the coturnix babies first get put in the brooder from the incubator... do you put the ground up food scattered on the floor for a couple days? Or in the normal feeder is fine? Like they will find it just fine?? What’s recommended?

I put it in a pasta sauce jar lid for the first few days

I scattered it for the first day so I could better guide them to it, then put it in a deep lid for the next week or so, then in a normal feeder once they were too big to crawl inside it.

i used a pop bottle cap with a marble in it for the water too. i used a pasta sauce cap for water. They rolled in it and almost died from a chill. Then they rolled in the pop bottle cap and almost died.

The marble in it keeps them from getting in it and weighs it down

Mabye its just my chicks are suicidal
