I have a newly hatched dark brahma chick that is only 6 ish hours old. It forst pipped yesterday at 1 pm and broke free from the shall at about 10:30 am today. It was the second chick to hatch and the first one was pretty wild. They are in a NR360 which I feel is a bit short for them.

Anyway, she is fine sitting up and walking a bit, but she tends to go over backwards a lot and will sometimes just sleep on her back as she gathers strength to right herself. I do not notice a bent neck or her looking up a ton.

Do you think its wry neck??

I have eletrolights, probiotics, vitamin E, and Selenium, but i am afraid of overdosing the little one too.

How do i mix this all...ratios.

Thank you!!

Sunny

Do the electrolytes have vitamins? If so, just give those for now. Poultry NutriDrench is good, and can be given slowly a drop or two. Liquid baby vitamins would also work, 2 drops orally. I don't have a lot of other advice. Hopefully, it will perk up as many do with vitamins.

How is your chick? I have a new hatchling and it can’t seem to get going. I am not sure why. It was initially only going backward and now goes forward but not easily and then just lays it’s head down and closes its eyes. I was told perhaps to get it some vitamins so I just was curious how things are going for you.

Oh...poor baby. I am sorry that its struggling.

Mine is doing fabulously. No signs of any issues at all anymore.

I put a little dollop of vitamin E, electrolyte, probiotic and boiled egg yolk mixture on the end of it's beak a few times for two days. However, I think getting it out of the incubator helped too so it could work out its kinks. Malpositioning was at fault, I feel.
I've attached a photo of her (🤞🤞🤞) that I took yesterday.

Good luck with your little one!!!

Thank you! Glad your baby is okay. This little one is hanging on. Tractor supply closed with new hours due to the quarantine and I didn’t make it to pick up the nutridrench tonight. I have some water probiotics that contains vitamin E and other vitamins that I am having it take sips of and I am about to try some egg yolk also. I hope it makes it but I’m not sure at this point.

Its so hard to see them suffer. Just remember that you are trying your best. What happens is out of your control, but at least you are loving on this little one! ❤

Thank you! I will see what tomorrow holds. My kids, but particularly my oldest two girls (5 and 6) are just in love with all these chicks. We have talked about how delicate chicks are and some may not be okay. We had 10 fertile, 8 hatch. I think we’ve done okay so far.
