Newly obsessed - what the heck do you do with all the chicks?

You all make me jeleous. What to do with all the chicks? my last hatch I got one chick out of 16 eggs. She is just fine, thank you very much. Had to go to the feed store and get her a buddy. Spoiled little things. I hope to have the problerm of "too many chicks" soon.

I sell them. That way, I can keep on hatching! Yes, I'm a hatching addict. I just love chickens. I have a clear bin full of newly hatched fuzzy butts in my living-room which will all be sold by the weekend. So......that means I can hatch more! My next batch is due March 30th. I hatch every week this time of year.

Well, it's just wishful thinking so far, this is my first hatch, and most are shipped...............so fingers crossed!

Sending good hatching vibes your way!

I would count on keeping them. Craigs list and farm stores are overloaded with posts and chickens.

Be responsible - don't hatch them if you don't have the room and resources for them 1st. If you sell some that's a bonus, but unless you do a presale and know there are takers, don't count on it. Where I live, the farm stores all buy from commercial hatcheries and still end up giving tons away at the end because not enough people buy them. They are more of a novelty to get people in the stores. But they do not buy from regular people because of disease etc.. Not to mention, they are already overloaded!

I was just thinking this today....
I have a 2 broody bantam cochins sitting on 11 eggs total. I have a brand new incubator just loaded with 19 eggs. While I am able to keep all of these if I cannot find homes for them, I do have to wonder what others do when they hatch batch after batch.
I have lavender orpingtons laying fertile eggs...hate to put such important eggs in with my regular eating eggs, so I was curious what others did with their batches.

It seems like you could presell the Lavendar Orphington chicks. I am on a waiting list for some, but I don't know if the people are really going to remember and contact me - that's the weird part about being on a "list".
