Hi! I'm new to the Backyard Chickens community. I'm an art teacher living in the Austin, TX area and I just recently built a chicken coop for my elementary school. This is going to be a bit of a negative first post on the Backyard Chickens Forum but I just wanted to bring this article to everyone's attention since it's so new. I was doing a google search on "chickens + children" and ran across this unfortunate article on http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2010/07/backyard-chickens-lead-to-arsenic-in-children/ It was posted yesterday. There is also a link to another article within the article called Nation's Cities Debate Backyard Chickens: http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2010/06/nations-cities-debate-backyard-chickens/ It's a little upsetting considering the amount of work that was involved in building the coop! I also heard news about PETA banning animals from some of the local schools in the district.
