Newspaper and chickens??????

I am shipping some birds out on Monday. I was able to get ahold of some free newspaper. I was thinking about shredding it and putting it in the bottom of the box. Okay, here is the question, is newspaper safe for them or would it hurt them if they started eating on it?

I put shreded paper in my chicks brooder and it was fine.

I was planning on shredding some and putting it in the bottom of a shipping box. Then I got a newspaper near my girls and they were pulling off pieces and eating it. The babies probably didn't eat it. So I am wondering if the chicken I am shipping decide to eat some of the newspaper would it hurt it?????


Does anyone know. I am shipping out some birds on Monday and I really need to know if I should figure something else out to put in the bottom of the boxes.
