In the process of building my quack shack, what are your best recommendations on keeping the poop in the area to a minimum. Should i use sand in the outdoor area? Should i just keep the grass? I feel like the grass will eventually become sopping wet, what are you guys using and what have you found to work best? I attached my inspiration.

Our run is just the ground (grass/weeds) and then when I change out the straw from inside their house I like the edges bc it decomposes fairly quickly outside. The only really bare spots are where I keep the kiddie pool and where I dump the water for changes.

This is my run also little over half acre fenced in so they are on the bare ground most of the time. Around their pools and drinking buckets, I have flat river rock to help keep the mud down. And I do toss out old shaving especially in winter when there is snow and ice on the ground to help with traction and a drier place to lay to stay warm. It breaks down beautifully then I get to use it for planting.

I've seen where members have used sand in their runs so hopefully someone who has will reply. Straw, shavings, mulch stuff like that would work but if your not going to have the top covered they will eventually work it all into the ground so be prepared to add more.
