Next to nothing feed - Why not?

I guess it would kinda depend on your goals. Are you raising chickens for sale or personal use? Do your customers care what the birds eat as many do here in the U.S. or are they just happy to have meat? There's a lot more to consider, but you get the idea.

My wife's family kept chickens really free-range. No fences, no protection and when they wanted one for the pot they just went out and caught one. If they wanted eggs they sent the kids out to find some. Other than that they ignored the chickens. They had to eat what they could find. Okay, not a particularly efficient operation, but it worked for them.

I can see where feeding chickens restaurant scraps would be cost effective.

Different people, different cultures, different times.

I would be raising chickens for sale, well I am sure a chicken that has eaten a wide variety of food would be a lot tastier then a chicken that has eaten bog standard feed.

Yeah pretty much happy to have meat hahah. But broiler consume a lot of food. 100 chickens would consume around 280KG of pelleted feed costing around £130, when 100 chicks only cost £50!!

But due to the large amount 100 chickens need, It would need to be collected in vast quantity's. But VERY beneficial for layers as they consume a lot less and would be **** tasty eggs!

I agree! When I was a boy we used to get river-caught catfish (and often caught our own), and they were oh so good. Today all you can buy is "farm raised" and they are BLAND and tasteless.

Hmm delicious. Im planning to fish farm but let them feed on proper nutrients and mature (which would make them tasty).
All about cost nowadays but putting together a very profitable farm in Kenya :)
