I'm not that fond of spiders either. I know they're good and eat bugs but I'd rather have them in the garden.

There are a few snakes out there too. Kinda small to eat the toads/frogs I've seen. One evening it was on the dark side and I saw something bantam sized moving. Thought the roo had escaped and went to grab it. Nope, BIG toad. Probably after all the huge nightcrawlers that come out at night. Chickens would have a field day.

yep all pets, the only thing I havent picked up yet is the baby scorpions. they hit harder/repeatedly more than adults and have no control over the venom as yet. once they get it under control I will handle them more. right now to move them I have to use a pencil with a rubber on it so not to hurt them.

Spiders are just fine in the garden. This year i got some cool pics of webs that spiders spun in interesting places. But i won't pick up spiders. My 8 yr old boy screams when he sees spiders.

We have brown snakes around--the cats occasionaly catch one---but i really hate snakes <shudder> As long as they stay away from me, they can eat all the bugs they want. We have a swampy area, so we have a lot of frogs, which i don't mind. We also have a lot of toads, and some are very large! Bats fly around at night, we see them in the dim yard light, catching mosquitoes----i'm cool with that---there are plenty of bugs to go around! We can find any number of night-crawlers, just by pulling up clumps of grass that grow up in the aisleways of my garden. When ever i turn my compost pile, i find scads of smaller earthworms. I didn't put them in there, they just appeared, but hey, they are good to have. On second thought, maybe they were in the roots of some weeds i threw in the compost bin, that must be how they got there.
My oldest son is fascinated with creepy-crawly things. He also likes to collect mushrooms. He found a clump of mushrooms that i thought was puff-balls. He put it on my desk Sunday afternoon. i was holding my baby girl while collecting papers yesterday afternoon, not even realizing the puffballs were in her reach. Next thing i knew, she had grabbed the clump of mushrooms and put it in her mouth! OMG! Since i am no expert on mushrooms, i contacted poison control. They had me email them photos of the mushrooms, and they confirmed that they were harmless puffballs. Puffballs are edible when they are young and white. These were mature and brown---no longer good to eat, but they don't become poisonous----thank goodness for that! Still, i threw the puffballs back outside!

I would have tossed them back outside also.
yes when young and still white they are very good esting, the dust that appears as a brown poder is actually the mushroom spore, their way or reproducing next fall, we used to have puff mushroom fights lol.

If you have earthworms reproducing in your garden is a sign of a healthy soil, the more the better.
No sign of worms not good soil.

You need to get the one who likes to mushroom a book on what muchrooms are which, some are dangerous to even touch.
once he knows which are which he will keep you in fresh picked mushrooms for drying and eating fresh.
