I never heard of one that lived, did you?

i havent and i wouldnt do an experiment like that if its for a classroom of children

I wouldn't if it was a elementary school but middle or high school its not like its going to traumatize them if it doesn't hatch out.

I just got a double yolker too ...nice big green EE egg...that would be interesting to hatch out!

It has been done (not many times) there was a post on here about 6 months ago about a lady who did hatch a double yoker !! It's nearly impossible, search "double yoker hatched" or something like that and you might be able to find it.

It was a VERY VERY cool thread to follow... Showed many pics and a few videos of her hatching the egg and the chicks after !!! Many people have tried it on here but as far as I know she is the only one who has done it !!

The science project for school is being done at the boys home. He has a very expensive incubator that just has to be set and that's it. It does everything on it's own. He also has a cheaper $45 model where you have to turn the eggs and everything. He's putting the same kind of eggs in each incubator and will find out in 21 days if their is a difference in the hatch rate between the two incubators.

Hatch rate isnt going to be told by the incubators unfortunately,
hatch rate comes in the form of fetility, thrivability factor while incubatiing, humidity temperature and turning.
the main factor being fertility,

EX: right now I have 7 Pheonix eggs in the bator, 6 of 7 are fertile and growing, one is a dud.
out of that 6 maybe 4 will hatch and 2 will be in egg faders.or
5 will hatch and 1 will be a fader.
unless he is guarenteed 100 % fertile, and non in egg faders he isnt going to get the results 100 % correct.

I agree but I also think that a good incubator has a better hatch rate. The eggs will be candled, duds don't count He's only a kid doing a class project. I'm sure his science teacher knows all about hatching but he is also incouraging him to do the project. I would have loved to have done something like that when I was a kid. His Mom can't find fertile eggs so I'm helping them out.

i think its a great project, after the 10 day mark he will know what was fertile and what was not and go from there. i sent out my incubators and eggs to 2 elementary school girls, they played music to one incubator and none to the other, unfortunatly that was during the big ice storm and one girl hathed nothing. the other hatched 5-6.
how did you do for eggs? got enough yet? no one is laying here.

I will have two dozen of the mixed eggs at the Deerfield swap for you Lisa. We aren't setting up for this one but just going to see what is available.
We went to the Barrington swap just to look today and take the dogs for a ride. I didn't get any new chickens but I did end up getting a nice cage for cheap. (Sorry Greg)

Hope to see everyone tomorrow at Deerfield and if not then Candia next week. We are setting up for that one.

What time does the Deerfield one start does anyone know?
