they are under my broody hen minny

We have 2 more hatched over night last night or early this morning...total of 4 so far...would this be considered a good hatch for silkies 4 out of 10? how long should I wait before I take out the other eggs???

Congratulations on the hatch, lucky you, I'm still looking for white Silkie chicks or hatching eggs

I havent candled the eggs today cause of the rain...when Iwent out to check on them a bit ago #4 was out of the nest and Ithought it was dead...when I picked it up it moved and gasped so it is now in the house under the heat lamp and breathing normally and if I touch it, it cheeps. my dog Chloe is checking on her every few mins...she is my bird sitting dog...

I have noticed that there are tiny flea type creatures coming off the bird... I know to use Diamatious Earth, which I ran out of, to prevent mites but what else can we use now that we have them...Savin??? Frontline?

At your local feed store they should sell some kind of poultry dust (for mites)
I was looking at Sevens dust the other day to see if it could still be used on animals/in coops and my local feed store guy didn't recommend using it any longer since they changed there directions (but that's just him). I use to use it in my coop every few changes to prevent anything but I'm not sure on using it any longer !! DE is fine I believe as long as it's food grade. I've only had a problem with buggies once (and that was when I bought my first birds a couple years back) I just used poultry dust and it took care of it, you should do all your birds if you see mites on them and it's a good idea to dust them twice about 7 days apart from what Iv' e heard and read !!

But make sure to do something since mites can be deadly to young chicks !!

Don't forget you need to dust them in a well ventilated area, breathing in too much of the dust can kill a young chick just as easily as the mites can.
