PS...Just a Country Girl also got her sister! They are very sweet standard cochin chicks about 7 weeks. I am secretly hoping that mine is a bantam! hee hee

If your disappointed I will buy her. I am secretly hoping they will be humungus

Thank you Gypsy for the detail info! I have a pretty good idea of how genetics works, I just was surprised to hear the mention of a blue eyed cochin! I did not know chickens came with blue eyes!

So, I guess my next question is; is this a purebred cochin, or is she mixed with some other breed? Where did the recessive blues come from? Who has the parent stock? I would love to chat with you regarding getting a few of these birds for my own! I love all things blue!

Do the calico markings come from the mix breeding? or were multicolored cochins bred? Does any one run a flock of multi-colored cochins and hatch the eggs to see what they get?

I think I need to pick up that book on chicken genetics!

Thanks
A~

Darlene and I bought the chicks from nhnanna. She has the parents. The blue eyes are very pretty. The chicks are beautiful I bought three off her. The calico with blue eyed pullet, a blue pullet and a very handsome very light blue plash cockerel

The three standard cochin chicks settled right in. The bkue roo is beautiful. As soon as I put them down in the barn they dove into the food and water dish. The little Seabright I got from Tammie tried to join up with my Millie han and her 5 babies that are about the same size as her. The hen didn't want anything to do with her. I went to the state fair. When I got hme around 10:30 I went out to the barn to check on everyone. I couldn't find the little Seabright anywhere. I came down to the house to get a flash light and my father stuck his head out the door and said " I have a beautiful little chick in the house" It was the Seabright. I'll have to put them in a differant cage tomorrow so she can't sqeeze through the bars

LOL- glad the little girl was ok- she's a sweety!

I had a great time at the sale. Sold all the birds except one bantam cochin cockerel-red. He came back home. My quail were a good sale with BYC member buying two hens and the rest going to a breeding home. All the button quail and coturnix eggs went too. Chicks and my banty boys found a nice home where the buyer also bought some cochin girls from another seller (another BYC member). Misc horse stuff didn't move.

I came home with new chickies: Darbella had a beautiful buff and splash OEGB chicks and a cute little pet chick I think is Americana? I also came home to the rest of my eggs in the bator and under one hen to have produced 7 Orloffs, 5 standard Favorolle chicks and the one crele polish I had left home was doing well.

Hubby finished the hay shed for the winter supply while I was at the swap. yay!

Tammie

Hi Tammie, The "pet" chicken was an egg sent to me marked EE with some of my serama eggs. She has green legs i know that and big dark eyes! My little dark colored quail got quite beaten up by the other 3 when i put them all in together, so he is now in a hospital cage and his head near his eye is quite a mess, but i put neosporin on it. Is it possible it is a male?? And maybe the other male got the gals to help him beat it up??? If so , i may have to sell him or place him so he will live! haha

Oh no! Poor kid! I sent you a PM on checking male/female. If it was a boy that you got from me we can do a trade for one of my other hens

How old are the babies? Are they the ones that just hatched recently? The boys are too old to put in with them. They need to go in with birds close to the same age or older.

-Cindy

i was thinking the same thing

The Serama boys are 5weeks and the ones she hatched are 7 weeks....the 5 weekers are beating up the 7 weeks.

I found my camera and will post a picture of the blue eyed white/calico cochin in the morning! She is a sweetie but those new seraamas were very mean to her and they are smaller! She is solo now till she visits with HenPen!!
