So currently our Cochin has gone brood and our hampshire I'll refer to her as Dori is exceptionally needy and bossy about this 'abandonment' I've heard that brooding can trigger in other hens to also brood which I've seen whith a dominant roo s flock in breeding season. But now She's been somewhat inspecting different spread out nesting spots from normal such as the nest box in our YB coop going in and out and in and out and also will arrange any eggs in nestboxes specifically even when not pre /post immediate lay. I've never noticed this whith other hens who've brooded but is she looking for a suitable nest sight? And if so how good of mothers/borders are they? I don't think I've ever seen a NHR whith chicks but if she may become an intent brood I may give her some eggs to hatch.

Ps this is Dori's first full laying season, she was laying for her first time only 3 months last summer post an illness pre laying age which delayed her start

She is indeed I've attempt moving her but she refuses. BUT Dori was already beginning to lay in a nest 2 boxes down regularly until about 3 days ago in which it now seems she runs about and looks at every nest box before laying. And no, our Cochin has not been growling or hissing when Dori is on a separate nest, she's very mild mannered and Dori has actually been kinda harassing her when she gets off the nest, reminding her she's in charge so I'm doubtful our wanna be mom scared her off :/ .
