Niacin Deficiency in Waterfowl

Good morning
I offered to help a family who has a duck with niacin deficiency
Snuggles was born on June 20
She had early signs of this but being new to ducks they had no idea
She kept going down hill and finally they were able to find things online that lead them to niacin deficiency but it didn’t give them the treatment plan that’s needed
They were putting niacin pills in the feed and it did help slightly with her neck but not her walking or her feet curling
She can only get around with her wings now
I have taken her in to give the best treatment I can
I know all the things needed to try
My question is has anyone seen success once it gets this far and has been this long with the issue ?
I’m able to keep her inside so I can do water therapy 3 times a day
She uses her legs when in water
I have durvet vitamin B complex I will give 1ml orally daily
I have nutritional yeast and niacin pills to spread on feed
I also have medicam to help with pain and swelling
I’m going to make her shoes to help with her feet and will do exercises to help her legs move as I am keeping her in a crate so she isn’t having to move around to much to get to water and feed
As her wings are getting beat up from having to use them to get around
She eats really well
Happy little duck considering her issues
Any extra tips would be great
I would love to get snuggles back to her family if possible
 
Bless you for taking her on and trying to help! Poor thing, that sounds very tough for her. I don't know anything about whether she will recover with the condition this far gone, but hopefully others can chime in. Please let us know how it goes. I'm glad she's with someone who cares and doesn't want her suffering!

I will keep updating
They do love her very much just didn’t have the knowledge on how to treat it properly
They drove 4.5 hours to bring her to me yesterday and are very grateful for all I’m doing to try and help her
You could see how bonded snuggles was to the young girl
Snuggled right into her arms
I have given them the link to BYC as it’s where I have learned all I know
Luckily I had everything she would need here because of this page
 
Although it’s not much we did see a small improvement
Snuggles has used her wings ti get around for a long time
Last night she put more weight on her feet and managed to move around without using her wings
Not standing yet only a few inches off the ground and using her knees and feet but any little improvement is a positive one
I sent the video to the owners and they said she hasn’t moved like that in a very long time
 
Day 12 of treatment
Still seeing tiny improvements
She is getting stronger each day
This may take longer then I thought but I’m here for the long haul
She is not using her wings much anymore and more of scooting on her legs
Her wings are healing and even Growing feathers back
Her left foot only curls when she is trying to move around but flattens out once settled
Her right leg is coming in more then staying out to the side
When swimming she fully moves then correctly
It’s just building strength for body weight now
 
This afternoon we had a big improvement
I went in to see her and she took 6 steps towards me
Not fully standing but not crawling
They said she hasn’t done that since she was loosing the baby fluff on her head
So many months ago
She also wouldn’t stop standing on my lap so I could give her the B comlex
Love Her fight she has in her :))
I still won the battle on the b comlex 😂

They did offer that if I wanted to keep her after all the work I could
I think they worry she may relapse and would feel better if she was here
She is such an amazing girl and loves to be on your lap snuggling
I have 31 of my own ducks so she would have a big family to join
