Nibbler the single duckling

All of mine like talking to their reflection in the back screen door window, lol! I think they think I'm keeping more ducks inside and being mean about letting them in. Until I sneak one in at night, then they all love me the next day lol.

Don't mind us, we're all sitting out here in the rain. It stopped now, but it's kinda cold compared to just last week when I was sweating enough to create my own rain cloud.

Heres something weird. missy seams 100% healthy and shes a nice bird. Shes still indoors so every second nite or so i fill the sink up and lets her fool around for 5 minuts and put her back in her brooder

All normal except she never preens. Never ever. She did a tiny bit when i get her but now she just sits till she dries then proceeds as normal.

Is it the lack of duck contact causing it?

Oh and SHE has an awfull butchy stance. Is that a male thing?

She loves piper tho. Even tho its like a chicken nugget trying to make friends with a fat kid

Ok so I must know how you figured out that your cat was duckling friendly?? We were so neurotic about our first ducklings this year... practically acted like they were made of glass! I wanted to try to intro them to the cat but husband said unequivocally no.

We’re looking to add two more next spring so was wondering how you decided to intro the kitty.

Haha i just used realy close supervision

That tabby would chew that duckling up the second if your back was turned. My white cat i would trust to be safe with no problem

What it is mostly is if the duck panics and runs the tabby cant fight his primal instints

Once there big like 5 weeks and up the cat (My cat. not all cats) cant be bothered with them

And ducklings are pretty tough! dont worry about getting them hurt too much. Basicaly my worries when there under 3 weeks old is falls (bumps on the head) squishings, and eating something poison or they cant digest . they can survive most anything else

Yes I am much less worried about them and I think my next round of ducklings will be a little easier.

My cat got outside and when he got up next to the grown ducks and realized how big they are he was like “NOPE!”

Can you get a pic of Missy standing on something solid that will show her legs front view? Like she is looking right at you? I want to see where her legs are under her body if the sit close together female if the sit far apart drake but she may still be too young to say yet.

I can't tell either by the pictures to use my theory. I think my theory just comes from paying attention to what @Miss Lydia and others told others and from watching the difference in speedy and fancy.

Maybe try massaging her preen gland a little bit after her bath? Maybe she will figure out what it is for:idunno
I've read things that have said sometimes brooder raised ducklings need to be shown their preen gland sometimes. . but I figured that was silly. Maybe there is some truth to it?
