I am a new chicken mama. I bought 12 chicks from TSC. There was no signs telling me what kind they were. The lady just said red pullets and "regular" pullets. I thought pullets was a breed. Haha so from what I have researched, I am thinking the red ones are red sexlinks. Not sure on white ones. Anyway, (pardon my rambling) they dot seem very friendly. I have fed them from my hand when they were still in brooder. I just put them in coop yesterday and when I kneel and try to pet or just stand in there some of them like dart at me kind of aggressively. I had fantasies of sweet, loving chickens not scenes from a Hitchcock movie. Any suggestions on a breed I can get that are NICE?

I'm not sure what age yours are, but they can go through a kind of skittish stage at around a month or two old. Especially since they are just getting used to the coop, they may be acting nervous. I wonder if they dart at you to see if you have a treat and then run away. Once they calm down a bit you can encourage them to sit still a while and get used to being handled some before they get a treat. That said, chicken temperaments can vary. My Barred Plymouth Rock and Orpingtons seem to be the most friendly. But I had one Red hen who would come when I called her name and did not mind being picked up. I miss the old girl.
