Nice roo comments?????

I have a sweetie rooster too: Chuckie the Hand-me-down Silkie. He's turned out to be quite the character. For starters, he's wonderful with the hens (all of whom out weigh him by at least 2:1). Chuck has severely reduced their range area, keeping them much closer to the coop and out of the evil, coyote & fox-filled woods. He can be a little assertive when he thinks the girls are being threatened, but if it's me he's decided is the Mean Predator, all I have to do is growl at him and he quiets down. On top of all this, Chuckie lets me pick him up for a cuddle every evening. Can't ask for much more.

I LOVED having a rooster for much of the same reasons above, but unfortunately I live in the city and had to rehome him. He went to live on a farm with over 60 other varieties of birds, mostly chickens, and his new family is amazed at how friendly he is.

I think I am completely opposite of everyone. I like my roosters more then my chickens.I have 8 roos and 5 chickens. I wouldnt mind if all of them are roos, the girls are good because they could breed. The rooster is a strong and tough bird and most of all beautiful.I have seramas and a couple kind of roosters that I brought from puerto rico called kikiriki(youtube it),they are the same size as seramas.I wouldnt trade them for anything.

We have three adult roosters that are very well behaved. Two will take treats from your hand and call the hens to share. The third is a little flighty with people but good with his hens. we have no problem inviting the bad boys to dinner.mmmh fresh roaster.

I want to have a flock with enough good broodies to keep me stocked with chickens for eggs and meat. Truth is, even if that did not require a roo, I wouldn't have a flock without one. It's a natural condition for them, and I think the hens do better with a roo around. It's just a matter of keeping them around long enough to figure out who is protective of the flock and at least manageable toward people. I don't have an actual pet among the three I have at present, but I don't have to worry about turning my back, either. (On the other hand, among 30 chickens, I only have one pet.)

The roos that did not offer hens food, or stalked me, went to the freezer. There are plenty of good roos out there. If I ever see the need to keep a human-aggressive roo for the sake of the flock, I will not hatch his eggs.

I had a roo before my husband made me find a home for him. Actually I had three, but the other two were obnoxious and my neighbor ate them. The last one was a buff orp/BR cross apparently, and he was a sweetheart. He had tons of personality, and a huge vocabulary, and I loved to watch him feed the hens and watch over them. When he saw me he would flap his wings "hello", also did that when I drove in the drive. I miss him so much! I would get another roo in a heartbeat if my situation allowed. He did flog me once, but we had a discussion about that and got things straightened out.

I've had good roos and bad roos. My favorite was a HUGE BR roo named Brewster. He was good for us, but when we went on vacation, the teen boy who watched my chickens got attacked by him. He was only doing his job of protecting the flock from outsiders, but after that... no one would take care of the chickens when I was on vacation. So I rehomed him with 2 of his favorite girls.

Our current roos are good roos. The little cochin/silkie guy is good with his girls. The EE... well, he is jsut now 20 weeks so we'll see how things work with him. Right now he avoids people, but he's been giving me the "eye" lately.

Here are all my past and current roos:
