We are not completely new to chickens. Unfortunately, our first batch about 2 1/2 years ago now, were all found dead, mauled, and half eaten one afternoon. It took us a while to get over the trauma of that, decide yo try again, fixed the weak points in the coop and run and get chickens old enough to lay.
We currently have 5 laying hens (2 barred rock, 1 Rhode island red, and 2 easter egger) and 5 growing hens (3 buff orpingtons, 2 black astrolrope) and 1 black astrolorpe rooster that was suppose to be a pullet but was not and will need a new home since we are not allowed to have a rooster.
We love the personalities of our chickens. They are quite smart and have ways of showing that to us every day. Cant beat the bonus of fresh eggs everyday. We also are trying our hand at ducks. I currently breed chinchillas as a hobby having around 25 chins I love and care for. We also have 3 cats, a rabbit, and two fish tanks. All these are helpful and positive in my profession as a family daycare provider and for my 3 children. Learning about life, death, and responsibility are all important lessons that having pets teach children
I just happened to find BYC searching on FB. I immediately chose to join to have another source for help, advice and sharing. I look forward to everything you have to offer.
