Niederrheiner Thread! All Colors!

Uberchic Ranch, the cockerel/pullet pair I ordered are coming along fine :)
they're actually in our house atm, (the cockerel had a bug and needed meds- but all better). Just waiting on the pullet to start laying, and the snow to melt (we still have 2-3 ft) and I can all 4 LCN together.

I have at least two LCN roosters that I will trade for one LCN Rooster to expand my genetics. I have a few young LCN cockerels also that I am willing to trade.
I also have Ayam Cemani Chicks to trade for a Cemani Rooster that is from a different genetics group than mine (mine cane from California). I also have one adult Cemani Rooster I would trade if you don’t want chicks. [email protected].

@Vorksigan Hope you can find some good trades. Crossing my fingers for you! I love it when rare breeds are improved! There are so many breeds that I would love to own but in my zone we can have only 5 hens/no roos and that makes it very tricky for me to mix breeds in a flock to all get along, i.e.: not to mix docile breeds with assertive breeds, heavy standard breeds w/ small bantams, etc etc. Good luck to you all working on the Neiderrheiners!

Hi Folks! I was recently introduced to this Breed by Vorksigan, and he suggested I look up this group. I bought a variety of chicks from him, and I think I have a few little Neiderrheiner pullets - but it's early and I'm unfamiliar with the Breed.
If any of y'all are having success hatching the Neiderrheiner eggs and have a few extra little boys that you would be willing to part with, I believe we could improve the gene pool with just a little effort. The hatch rates would almost have to get better, too. There are so few of us raising them we really should consider sort of a 'one for all & all for one' approach to improve and expand the genetic diversity and viability, and vitality!, of the chicks we produce and future generations. Any thoughts or ideas from more experienced folks? : )

@TheTropix For a rare breed to gain popularity and diversity, state/post what the great attributes of the Neiderrheiner breed is. A breed gains popularity and numbers when people discover its usefulness -- its temperament, its large eggs, its consistent productivity, its predator-savvyness, it's meat quality, it's foraging capabilities, etc etc etc or whatever is great about Nieds. Rhode Island Reds always seem to be first on people's lists because their reputation has been built-up over the years for their meat and egg qualities and ability to be good range foragers plus health hardiness. Right now I'm waiting on some breeders of Breda to improve hardiness of the gene pool because I happen to love the docile nature of the Breda plus it's great egg productivity and foraging capabilities (its also a unique and beautiful variety in many colors) -- however, as in all rare breeds, the gene pool needs to breed some better hardiness and resistance into the breed, to build up diversity. It won't happen overnight. Another good way to promote interest in the breed is to enter many poultry shows to get the word out about the Nieds. If hatcheries don't carry the breed either, then people don't know its a useful rare breed. As always best wishes, GL!

Hi Sylvester,
I'm looking forward to posting many nice things about the Neiderrheiner breed, but I've only had little chicks for almost 3 weeks, so I don't know much about them just yet. : ) I can say that they're friendly little babies!

Finally, getting LCN chicks to hatch. I am interested in sharing genetics with others. If anyone is interested I’m willing to trade chicks or share roosters. Contact me at [email protected]

I'm in the same boat as Vorksigan (maybe most of us are?) when it comes to needing a young rooster to grow up with my little girls and expand their genetic base. Vorkigan and I are not quite 100 miles apart, so ideally boys from different locations would be our best bet. Is there anyone that's anywhere close to Texas (east Texas hopefully!!) that has any extra little boy Neiderrheiners they'd sell or trade?
